Rose Croix 18th Degree collar, Ascebi Chapter No. 1153

Warranted 9th January 2003 - Consecrated 23rd May 2003.

The Rose Croix, formally known as the 18th Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Rite, is widely regarded as one of the most profound and spiritually significant degrees in all of Freemasonry. It sits at the heart of the Ancient and Accepted Rite, a system of 33 degrees governed in England and Wales by the Supreme Council at Duke Street in London, and is the only degree within that Rite that individual Chapters are permitted to work in full. To be admitted, a candidate must already be a Master Mason, and in England and Wales a profession of Trinitarian Christian faith is required, giving the order an explicitly devotional character that distinguishes it from the broader universality of Craft Masonry. Members, once admitted, are known as Princes Rose Croix of Heredom, and local bodies are called Chapters.

The ceremony itself is considered among the most beautiful and moving in Freemasonry. It takes the candidate on an allegorical journey through darkness, loss, and despair, reflecting the search for a lost spiritual truth, before arriving at light and redemption, drawing deeply on Christian symbolism surrounding the Passion, death, and resurrection. The themes of faith, hope, and the immortality of the soul are woven throughout. The degree is not merely ornamental; many who have experienced it describe it as genuinely transformative, and it is often the order that Freemasons are most reluctant to speak lightly of. For Christian Masons in England and Wales, the Rose Croix frequently represents the most cherished and personally meaningful step in their entire Masonic journey.
